Today on the show, we’re discussing male allyship and exploring some of the common deflections we hear from men that keep them from getting into the game.
We’re excited to welcome back to the show, Dave Smith, co-author of the book, Good Guys: How Men Can Be Better Allies for Women in the Workplace and an Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. A former Navy pilot and squadron commander, Dave is also a sociologist and focuses his research in gender, work, and family issues including allyship, inclusive mentorship, gender bias in performance evaluations, and dual career families.
Dave is widely recognized as a generous ally and advocate who continues to use his voice to encourage more courageous and effective allyship in the workplace. Today we discuss:
- How we define “deflection” and what sets it apart from other common distractions on the road to equity and inclusion.
- Productive ways to engage deflection.
- Ideas for engaging male allies more effectively in the workplace.
